Photographer's Note

One of the fun things about this jam session was seeing all these white-haired people being such an entusiastic audience; they danced, clapped to the music, sang along and shouted approval. See the band leader and Guitarist, guest saxophonist, and Trombonist of this lively and exciting band.

Sharon Shufelt was sitting in such a dark area that a flash was the only option. The 50mm lens might have worked with a tripod but the venue allows little space for tripods. I keep meaning to try a monopod. I suppose the reason I haven't is that I think the musicians' movement would cause excessive blurring. I did try bouncing the flash. I think another useful choice would be to decrease the aperture size. I cloned out the edge of the next musician to increase the impact of the cymbal shadow.
