Photographer's Note

The landscape around the Mojave Desert town of Randsburg is dotted with deserted old cabins. Presumably these were occupied by workers at the adjacent gold mine, which shut down just a couple of years ago but is now planning to reopen due to the higher price of gold. In the meantime, the town survives by maintaining a semi-"old west" character to its main street and providing services to those who come to the desert for recreation (motorcycle and dune buggy riding, in particular.) Not much is new or modern in Randsburg--one gets the impression that time stopped there 50 years ago.
