Photographer's Note

This is the Olive Walk at the California Institute of Technology. The trees are olive trees, hence the name. The path runs down between the two main student housing complexes. To the right are the student houses named Fleming, Dabney, Blacker, and Rickets. To the right are Page, Lloyd, and Ruddick(sp?). In the right middle you can see the Fleming cannon, originally from a prep school in the area. It's a Franco Prussian War era gun. It was recently purloined by some MIT(Many Ignorant Turkeys) students and then quickly recovered by Cal Tech students. The Olive Walks wasn't always so pretty. In the 1970's, when the cannon was once filled with Jello because its firings knocked soda cans out of the windows in Lloyd House, the grass was all just packed clay.
