Photographer's Note

Wishing for peace on earth, and prosperity for all, from Ocean Beach. I was just passing by and was compelled to capture this with whatever camera and lens I had at the time. I have taken many other images of this place, but this is my favorite.

This place is known as "Peace Rock" because of the symbol, which has been in place for 2 or 3 years now. I have heard there has been another one further north on the California coast, installed after this one appeared, but I have not seen it. The beach here is a long climb, about a hundred feet vertical, down a rock strewn trail. Many locals call it "No Surf Beach" but, as you can see, that is a misnomer.

This rock has had a series of statuary installed atop the pillar by an unknown artist, who must work under cover of darkness as nobody ever witnesses the act of creation. Previous themes have included a Christmas Tree and a metal framed fabric sculpture of a bird.Could this be considered graffiti? I hope it catches on!
