Photographer's Note

The Lake Mary Road into the Mammoth Lakes Basin ends at Horseshoe Lake, which is ten miles from the main Highway 395.
Horseshoe Lake is the only one with wide sandy shores.
Because it has no outlet, swimming is permitted. (The other lakes supply drinking water, therefore no swimming.)

There is a hiking trail which goes deeper into the wilderness and closer to the mountains seen here. Higlights are: McLeod Lake, Crater Meadows, Deer Creek, and the Red Cones (volcanic formations).
