Photographer's Note

Convict Lake was named after a jail break from Carson City, Nevada in 1871. Here the convicts were recaptured after a shootout with a posse.
Today the Lake is popular with trout fishermen and a fine place to 'saunter' into the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Convict Lake was highlighted in the opening scene of How the West Was Won with James Stewart as a fur trapper paddling a canoe across its azure waters. It was also used in scenes from the 1998 film Star Trek Insurrection.
