Photographer's Note
February 1995 is the date that sticks with me, but I may be off by a year one way or the other. Tone is a Japanese word expressing, roughly, "smart roots", as I understand it, and gawa is river. Tonegawa flows from the central mountainous region of Honshu and empties into the Pacific at the small fishing village of Choshi, just north of Tokyo. The ship is shown loading some sort of vegetable oil, or other edible oil for shipment back to Japan. The picture is take off the Gerald Desmond bridge.
