Photographer's Note
We met most of the members for the first time at the Mono Inn. It was surprising to find such an excellent restaurant in this very small town; however, the lack of a MacDonald’s showed the town’s good taste. While we waited for the others to arrive we enjoyed an Ansel Adams exhibit as well as a nice but non-tufa view of Mono Lake. Lee Vining has become a lightening rod for environmentalists over the issue of water resources. Their successful battle encouraged other areas of Owens Valley to fight the Los Angeles Metropolitan Water District (LAMWD ) for a bit of the water that passes through this area from the Sierras. LAMWD had maintained that that they bought the water rights in the early 1900s and they had no obligation to share.
In deference to the time people spent writing critiques, I've posted suggested corrections in the WS rather than doing a repost.

Hi Pat & Larry,
This is almost like a water colour to me.The F/G is bit dark but that is not at all a major issue. The colour is really soft and well saturated and the vertical POV is very well executed.

the colours are wonderful. I don't kniw if you used some special psot-processing technique or if it came out of the box with this beautiful pastel tones, but this is awesome. Congratulations!

Hi Pat and Larry. I hope you don't take this in a negative way, but this shot reminds me of some of the classic shots from National Geographic, the sorts of shots one was tempted to paint or frame. I love the subdued colours and the charming composition. My compliments. Klaudio.

A very nice, soft, pastel impression. It looks almost like a painting. I love it! The framing is perfect with the vertical orientation. What a sensibility for details ...
The image doesn't fit at all with the LA background story. Pfff, I just can laugh. Water rights? How has the rights of water? What a piece of ... I would call it exploitation and not rights. Who gave that single people that sold the "rights" to LA the right to do so? The can sell property but not what comes down in form of rain.

Hello Pat/Larry -
This is very nice! The lighting is just perfect with the pastel light on the distant TStorm. I like your choice of using the old/ancient farm implement as a foreground point of interest. All of the technical stuff looks to be right on the money. Just to pick a nit, I think I would have removed the electrical box in the lower right corner. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful shot! I like the composition, where everything seems to be perfectly placed, leaving a very well balanced shot. The wheel is an interesting object, both visually and for it's historical value. The tree balances this and together they frame the landscape beyond. Beautiful!

Hello Patricia,
What did you made here..it looks like a painting, so beautiful soft and smooth with colours that bring us way back in time...very lovely.
Your colours and composition are stunning, a mood which i have seldom seen before...wonderful.
It seems your weekend was great at Mono Lake. I remember my stay very well last year. I expected a larger town, but Lee Vining was just a small passing by town, with excellent options to visit Mono Lake, Bodie and Yosemite.
I stayed two nights at this place.

The pastel colours are wonderful and the fill-flash has worked a treat on the fg tree. I sometimes feel people on TE are a bit sniffy about flash and for that reason I'm wrongly influenced against its use, but here it has captured a wonderful atmosphere. The whole composition is very well constructed with the implement in the fg and the beautiful, subtle colours in the bg. Excellent work. In my favourites

Olá Amigos,
Beautiful picture indeed.
But I notice some strange post-processing effect at left side (half bottom), around the bottom branches or bushes.

Hi Larry and Pat,
What a nice view of the Mono Craters in the background. This view shows how long people have been around Mono Lake and its preservation by not developing around the edge of the shoreline. It also has a very warm inviting feeling to it just like the hospitality from the two of you. Thanks, Steve

Hi Pat & Larry,
Excellent moody image so very well framed by the three and the old farm machine. Wonderful dreamy colors that are so soft and sharp details to this beauty. It looks like a painting that I would be proud to display on my walls.

Hello Larry & Pat,
Very nice work here, the pastel colors are very soothing on the eye. The image evokes a sense of days gone by probably due to the foreground wagon wheel. Nice job managing the exposure, seems like it would been a tough scene to meter but you pulled it off superbly!

Doug

Hi Pat
The colours are wonderful. How did you get the pastel effect? I like the composition a lot with the watermill in the FG & the framing by the tree & the branches. Almost a painting effect...But surprisingly I also see some patch on the left, as if pasted or copied!

Hi Pat - this one has an irrestistable wild west feel to it, the softness of the light and contrast is a plus in this case, it has an attractive vintage look, there is something "funky" in the lower lesft quarter, as if there is a frameless glass panel.

You've really captured the atmosphere of this lovely location. I'm glad to hear that Mono Inn still serves an excellent meal. You are so right that it is unique in that part of the world. Thanks for the memories! Judy
