Photographer's Note

Mono Lake - Lee Vining Califorina and the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

I saw a couple images of this area posted today, so I was inspired to dig up one of mine.

Needless to say Mono Lake is a great photo destination and part of a great area to tour. In the vicinity, you have Yosemitie National Park, the best ghosttown in California in Bodie, and numerous beautiful alpine lakes a short drive away. Of course, the Sierra Nevada Mountains dominate just about every view in this area.

Mono Lake showcases some very unique geologic formations called tufa. While these spires poke up high into the sky today they actually formed under water when the lake was once higher.

This image was captured within the first hour after sunrise. It was spring, so the 12,000 ft mountains in the background still had some snow. I liked the soft clouds in the sky and the subtle reflections of the tufa in the waters.
