Photographer's Note

Mono Lake is an ancient lake, over 1 million years old. It has no outlet. Those spectacular "tufa towers" are calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water.

This was taken just after sun rise. Sorry, the EXIF's time was wrong.
