Photographer's Note

California Brown Pelican

Unique among the world's seven species of pelicans, the Brown Pelican is found along the ocean shores and not on inland lakes. This bird is distinguished from the American White Pelican by its brown body and its habit of diving for fish from the air, as opposed to co-operative fishing from the surface. It eats mainly herring-like fish. Groups of Brown Pelicans often travel in single file, flying low over the water's surface.

On a personal note:

I am dedicating this shot to my grandfather who passed away on April 25, 2007.

May his soaring spirit always be remembered.
