Photographer's Note

Death Valley National Park in California has the lowest place in the Western Hemisphere at "Badwater". It is the Earth's hottest place with summer temperatures in the 130 degrees Fahrenheit range and an estimated high of 140 degrees. The salt flats in this photo contain more calcium and carbonate than sodium - choloride.

The average annual rainfall in Death Valley is less than one and half inches per year. And some years there is no rain.
