Photographer's Note

Though Arizona has had a wetter summer than usual, coming upon this pool of water high in the Teepees area of Coyote Buttes was totally unexpected. I had already hiked in the area for over 5 hours and had seen no damp areas.

Best viewed by opening in a new tab.

Coyote Buttes Wilderness is split into North and South sections. Both sections require a permit for entry and the ones for the North section are nearly impossible to obtain as "The Wave" resides within it. Access to the South section requires a high clearance, 4x4 (NOT AWD) vehicle as the roads to the two wilderness border trailheads are deep, soft, sand and are not maintained.

The exposure of the pool was selectively increased and auto-contrast applied to the image.
