Photographer's Note
When spring arrives in the rainsforest of SE Alaska, the skunk cabbage rises from the muskeg swamps to brighten our world. So named because it emits a faintly "skunky" odor, it's the favorite salad of waking bears. For those of us who overwintered in the gloom of our winter, skunk cabbage is a bright harbringer of spring! Welcome back, humble plant.
