Big sunset, a photo from Alaska, West

Photographer's Note

For my last posting (for the time being anyway) from our cruise on the Inside Passage a great sunset that appeared shortly after my previous posting. Once again a little noisy - hand held you can't use a tripod for photos from a ship because they are always moving.

as for my NYC post, you wrote your critique too quickly, I was writing my note...its posted now :) this is one heck of a sunset! wow. the air is on fire! They don't allow tripods on the deck? awesome silhouette of the mountain peeks, thats awesome! cheers

Hello Ian,

For once this site is better than the Beta site for the noise is hardly visible here, but even on the Beta site, this is one jaw dropping scene!
I love how the hues on the mountains slowly fade into the distance, ending in a wonderful glow from this fiery sky.

Hi Ian,

Sometimes I adjust the camera settings to sports action settings. It noticeably improves motion blur in traditional landscape shots taken from moving boats, trains and buses. A gorgeous fiery sunset with good saturation and sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Ian,

The composition is well divided, the sky, the mountains and the sea. The point of ciew is showing the details of the mounytains and of the clouds. The sunset is giving nice colors to the sky. Well done, a good way to fisnish the day.

On a presque l'impression de voir une page de musique, les montagnes étant les notes et le soleil étant la portée. Le panoramique est superbe. Très bonne technique.

Hi Ian,
Wonderful sunset view. There's so many different tones of red in the sky, and various hues of violet on the mountain slopes. Noise is not a problem on smaller size but clearly visible in big size. I guess you could have used wider aperture and somewhat longer exposure even on a moving ship.

Beautiful with the hazy consecutive mountains on a fiery red background.
Without you mentioning it, we're indeed not considering the use of a tripod on a ship.
