Photographer's Note

For an early walk at Fern Harbour some of use went ashore (with a naturalist guide) to this low area. Low clouds (as is usual around the inside passage) were still about. The area has masses of berries (see workshop) and lots of evidence (fresh tracks, scats etc) of bears who come there for the berries.
We were told to keep up the noise (calling out, singing) to help keep any bears away. We saw none but we saw several varieties of berries including salmon berries, nagoon berries, wild strawberries, water melon berries among others. We did lots of tasting - delicious! The berries on the bushes in the foreground are salmon berries (orange when young, red when mature) - you will need to open in the large version to see them properly.

Best in the large view.
