Photographer's Note
My boyfriend spotted this black bear up an apple tree having his lunch while out hiking along Skyline Drive. When we found him, he was sleeping with apples hanging from his mouth. You can't tell from the photo but he's about 25 feat up in the air stradding two thick branches. We quietly sat on the other side of the road watching him while 30+ tourists approached directly under the tree! I took 2 rolls of film but this was one of the only shots I got of the bear's face. He was very wary of the crowd swarming below him, especially after some brilliant parents allowed their children to SHAKE the tree in hopes of getting him to move. I swear people check their brain with their luggage!
I took this with my zoom at full length which explains the short focus range. I like the expression in his face. It's almost like he's asking me for help from the tourists or he's just exasperated because he can't finish his lunch.
PS - crop and sharpened

How precious! I love that look. Unfortunately I think this is over exposed, and yet dark too - one of those bright sun but under the dappled shadows effects. Of course it would be better if we could see more of him, but I think you did a great job, considering your note!
