Photographer's Note

This is a view of the Shenandoah Valley from Skyline Drive within Shenandoah National Park. The haze is naturally occurring, hence the name "Blue Ridge Mountains" but, more recently, has been thickening due to pollution from D.C. and surrounding areas.

I drive this drive every day and was waiting for a day when the haze was light enough that the far mountains of West Virginia, were the sun is setting, were able to be seen. However, I needed enough haze for the blue effect so I waited until sunset. The haze is best photographed with sunlight behind it, not bouncing off it. I'm still waiting for the perfect shot. The back 3 rows of mountains aren't really visible.
