Photographer's Note

While self isolated, I thought I'd do some photography around the farm, trying some new techniques and using the new camera. I hope to show some of these results over the next few days. We are in the New River Valley in south west Virginia. The house is at 2300 feet(701 m) elevation, the pond in this view ~2200 ft(670m)and the hill to the left about 3200 ft(975m)The farms in the area are generally pretty small (ours is 77 acres (31hectares), although there are some of over 500 acres(202 h). Many of the farms have been in families for over 150 years. The larger operations are usually full time farmers while the smaller ones tend to be retired folks or those with other employment. We lease ours to a dairy farmer who uses it as a breeding station for his milking Herefords. Many of the farms raise Angus beef, some goats, alpaca and sheep.
