Chairlifts are the preferred mode of transport for skiers up the mountains these days... but these bright red chairs are out of commission on the day I shot this and for another you can see that half of them have been covered by an icy layer of snow from the snow canons that were working overtime last December on Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

It's not the Alps, but hey it's the nearest thing within driving distance to Charlotte, where I live... See how the chairs are red on the right but completely covered in snow from the snow machine on the left. Cool, huh?

Have re-posted this image with a cropped, more close-up version. This accentuates the contrast between the bright red chairs and those that have been turned white by the snow machine...
