Photographer's Note

I guess I have taken a liking to collages. Today’s upload is a collage of the two alleys around St. Louis Cathedral: Pirate Alley on the left and Père Antoine Alley on the right, which are respectively on the left and right of the cathedral as one faces it from Chartres Street. The full size photos are provided in the workshop.

Pirate Alley: Legend has it that the area was a hangout for the pirates of Barataria when they would come into the city. The more likely explanation for the name might be that the Spanish dungeon was here and this is the alley pirates who had been caught would walk through before being put behind bars.

Père Antoine Alley: Antonio de Sedella, O.F.M. Cap. (1748 – 19 January 1829) was a Spanish Capuchin friar who served as the leading religious authority of the Catholic Church in New Orleans during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Commonly called Père Antoine, he has become a noted figure in the culture of the city. His ghost is said to walk this alley.
