Photographer's Note

The world is not so black and white...

Photo taken in Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL

Established in 1738 as part of the outer defenses of St. Augustine, Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, or Fort Mose was the first free black settlement in North America.

At over 330 years old, the Castillo has a lot of stories to be told. The Castillo cost Spain over a quarter of a million pesos to build, the equivalent of $30-$35 million dollars today!.
