Photographer's Note
One of my favorite places on earth is just about in my own back yard. J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Preserve is a mere 25 miles from my front door and this time of year is the best for photographing birds.
Please correct me if I'm wrong (identifying birds is not my strong point) but I think this is a night heron. He was actually trying to take a nap yesterday afternoon but since he was so close to the road he was constantly being disturbed by guys like me.
This shot is full frame with absolutely NO CROPPING. I used a 400mm f2.8 lens with a 2x teleconverter. I estimate the bird to be only about 12 feet from the camera.
