Photographer's Note

This is one very good reason why I love sports action photography. Whether it's at the professional level or part-time jocks (such as these 2 guys) you just never know what's going to happen next. In this particular case I knew there was going to be action at home plate because the upside-down guy was trying to score from 2nd on a base hit. He did not slow down as he rounded 3rd and I saw the outfielder make a strong throw to home so I immediately focused on the catcher and let the motor drive do the rest. The runner decided to try to go over the catcher (rather than slide under him) and as he did the catcher raised up a bit to try to catch the incoming ball, thereby flipping the runner over the top.

This photo was taken at the Boston Red Sox fantasy camp. Fantasy camps cater to those die-hard fans and players who can only pretend to be a real ball player for a week. Every year nearly 150 men and women attend the Red Sox fantasy camp to play some ball and to socialize with former Red Sox players....the real ones.

These 2 guys are in their 50's and have established themselves nicely in the world of business. Surprisingly, the runner easily walked away from this collision but the catcher needed a little time with the camp medical staff.
