Photographer's Note
This is another shot taking during the Cherry Blossom festival in Washington, DC. In the background you can see the Lincoln Memorial and the water is once again the Reflection Pool. I took a picture of a friend getting ready to take a picture of the duck with his snazzy new Nikon D200. He was nice enough to stand right in front of the sun so I had no lens flare to worry about. I had a tough time deciding which one to post so I'll post another favorite from this moment as a workshop. The post processing was very modest here, just a minor levels tweak, then a contrast adjustment of 4 then I ran USM after resizing for TE. I decided to try my first frame here and I decided to keep it very simple for this first attempt. Taken around 6:30pm.

Great shot. The photographer blocked the evening sun. I wonder how it would have looked if he had not.

Hi Stephen,
Nice work! It looks like we started playing with frames at about the same time--I've been pleased with my frames so far, and this one is to good affect as well. Nice composition. I think that the horizon might be tilted about .75-1 degree CW, but other than that this is a great piece.
Thanks!

Oh I bet you could own that Nikon in his hands. Very well captured Stephen. Having your friend stand in the sunlight really adds to this presentation...I like it. I think Canon should have made a same pixel count contender for the D200. Nicely done Mr Singuanti!

Hi Stephen,
I like the compo you selected best because the color is better. I do like finding extra shots posted in the workshop; it often gives more depth to the presentation. In the sharp silhouettes you captured the photographer and the duck seem equally interested in each other. Not only do you have a lovely reflection in the water, your lighting is so good that even the concrete glows. Amazing.

Hi Steve, look like Nikon HW is spreading like a plague around DC, I know somebody who might die from envy reading your notes and would board the first plane from Tokyo to DC... The photographer and the duck balance the view here, and I find your exposure just superb, the sun setting behind your mate worked well to get the view luminous. Have a nice WE JY

I think that mood-wise it's one of your best recently, Steve. A nice moment shown with the duck floating towards the guy, and with Lincoln Memorial in the back. I would wish for some space between the man and the memorial, but I understand that the sun angle at that very moment wouldn't allow it without shooting smack dab into the light. Hope you're happy with the lens so far - even over here in Japan it's currently out of stock everywhere I looked and asked (Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto).

Hi Stephen,
This a amazing event moment picture shot that you took so nicely in a special light moment of the day with a great eye catch and creative inspiration. Both post and WS I really don't know how to choose because they are a must and this have your friend with the camera and the duck posing to him and the other no camnera and the duck living. Incredible the detail and moment. Like Cinema!
EXCELENT perspective and enquadrement scenery view. The title fits well with this post or could be "Duck posing to the Camera". The light, shadows and colors are a must here, with this lovely composition.
Very well seen, clear picture and a Splendid composition. My congratulations and Best to you my friend.
Have a nice Sunday.

Beautiful shot, Stephen, there is a technical perfection here that realy serves your cause well. I love the strong silhouette of the shoter and the golden, coppery light at his feet. Great perspective too.
Bravo!

Both shots are fantastic Steve. If I had only seen the WS I would still have been full of praise, but this one tops it big style. As you say the duck was more cooperative but also your friend's pose is better. The light and colours of the setting sun are wonderful and your angle of view provides excellent diagonals. Top work.

Bonjour Stephen,
Bien vu.
Regards.
Daniel.

This is very nice Stephen, I always enjoy photos or photographers at work. The sunset in the background only enhances the scene. I like this one you chose better than the workshop photo, but it was nice to be able to compare the two. All the lines leading to the memorial behind your friend are very nice, great shot.

Hi Stephen;
This is a great shot for the "Photographers at work" series (as you've added it). Excellently executed silhouette, using the photographer to blcok out the bright glares of the sun, and also managing the silhouette of the duck. The line of cement is also a nice addition.
Personally I would have corrected the horizon on this one, but thats a small point on an otherwise nice shot Stephen.
Cheers!

Hi Mr. Steve, An excellent silhouette view of the camera guy. You got him while he was concentrating on his shooting. I like the combination of the beautiful colors, reflections, and the view of the landmark place. A well composed and well taken picture.

Hi Stephen,
I still think this is a better one as it shows the concentration building up for the shoot and the duck is posing for it while the one in WS is an anti climax. The orange glow around the figure is most attractive and there is a strong energy surrounding him with all those lines pointing towards that direction. Congratulations! for a wonderful piece of work. Regards.

Hi Stephen.
Combination of a famous landmark and an intimate connection between the duck and the photographer.
This reminds me a lot to a picture from TIME newspaper, they should hire you!
Wonderful light and depth.

Hi Stephen,
This photo resonates with warm ambience and the tones of early spring. The POV, the reflections of the duck, the photographer getting ready to shoot, and the DOF allowing a great view of the distant Memorial, all come together for a most memorable shot. Congrats on this one, Stephen.

Very nice shot! I like this one a lot, because of the simple but strong image of the duck and the photographer looking at each other. Another great thing I just noticed is the way the lines all converge toward the sun, behind the photographer - this gives the shot a very unified feel. Great work!

Superbe maitrise de ce contre jour. L'homme posé devant le soleil, en silhouette, c'est tip-top.

Hi Stephen,
Very nice photo. I like the colours, the perspective and the fact the the photo is a bit tilt to the right. The low sun behind the man and the reflection on the water give the photo a magic atmosphere.

Beautiful shot. The silhouettes are well defined and the bird make it original.
Great colors too...
The only thing, is the picture tilted ? Perhaps it's my eye (it's late as I write this) but I feel like the picture could benefit from a slight counterclock wise rotation.

Hi Stephen,
I saw this fine post on the home page. It's well composed with your friend silhouetted well against the bright yellow ball in the sky :-) The light and colours are first class, as is your pov. As for frames, I've found some people like them and some don't so I've finally settled on a drop shadow effect in photoshop. A superb capture and well spotted.
Regards
Stephen
ps.I was going to buy a D200 but after much reading of reviews I settled on the D80 and I'm very pleased with it.
