Facades in Washington D.C.

A few weeks ago my post with Facades in Pittsburgh attracted a lot of interest. That is why today I post a presentation with details of three facades photographed in Washington.
Washington is far less than Pittsburgh and Chicago a city known for its special architecture, but there is still plenty to enjoy for an architecture enthusiast.

■ Picture 1: ◄ 2112 Pennsylvania Ave NW ►

A trophy office building designed by Gensler, a global design and architecture firm. The building was achieved in 2018 and houses various companies.
Gensler designed an articulated facade with glass fins that reach toward the street, capturing attention on Pennsylvania Avenue. These fins, carved with subtly varied profiles, create an iconic wave expression across the facade.
This construction creates beautiful geometrically reflective surfaces in late evening light.

■ Picture 2: ◄ National Museum of African American History and Culture ►

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a striking building located on the National Mall. The building was opened on September 24, 2016.
Lead designer David Adjaye and lead architect Philip Freelon, together with their architectural team Freelon Adjaye Bond / SmithGroup, won an international competition in April 2009 to design and deliver the museum to the people of the United States.
The architects have synthesized a variety of distinctive elements from Africa and the Americas into the building's design and structure.

■ Picture 3: ◄ 1901 Pennsylvania Ave NW ►

An eleven-story building from 1960, recently renovated by ACG Architects (Anderson Cooper Group Architects)
The project goal was the enhancing of the overall appearance and improving the building systems efficiency. The existing facade was removed and redesigned with new steel and glass retail awnings, an entrance canopy, and sun control louvers at the roof line.
The worked was phased to allow an uninterrupted workflow for the building’s tenants during construction.
