Photographer's Note it?

"Alabama, you got the weight on your shoulders that's breaking your back." (Neil Young)
"Sweet home Alabama, where the skies are so blue and the governor's true." (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
"Alabama, Alabama, why you wanna be so mean?" (J.B. Lenoir)

Whichever way you look at it, this is where it's at.

THE ALABAMA STATE CAPITOL in Montgomery is a place of pride, a place of protest too. The current capitol was completed in 1851, although additional wings were added over the course of the following 140 years. It was built in Greek Revival style.

During the American Civil War this building served as the first Confederate Capitol (before it was moved to Richmond, Virginia).

Over one hundred years later the Martin Luther King lead the famous Selma to Montgomery march, which ended at the marble staircase of the Capitol and lead to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The steps have continued to be the rallying point for civil demonstrations over the succeeding years and have seen protests by LGBT groups and immigration groups in recent years as well.
