Photographer's Note

Surrounded by 500-year old walls of sand, gravel and limestone, the streets of Old San Juan are lined with deep-blue cobblestones once used as ballast by Spanish ships. Centuries-old churches and meticulously preserved pastel houses huddle side by side within its seven-by-seven-block confines.

In the past week, Old San Juan has been preparing for Christmas. Here a street is reflected in Christmas Balls decorating a wreath hanging on a gate in front of a hospital.

Happy Holidays!
