Photographer's Note

This gun stands on the site occupied by Lt Alonzo Cushing's battery at the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War. It marks the so-called "High Water Mark" of the Confederacy during Pickett's charge on the 3rd day of the battle. Some 13,000 Confederate soldiers began the charge from the line of trees in the background and reached Cushing's battery before being repulsed with nearly 50% dead, wounded or missing.
