Photographer's Note

B&H...I'm sure most of you photography enthusiasts have heard of, and maybe have even ordered from the place. If you love cameras as I do, and are visiting NYC, no doubt you will make a pitstop here. I don't know if they are actually the world's largest, but I do know the consensus from photo buffs in the States is that B&H is number one.

On any given day (except Saturday!), the atmosphere is a mixture of frenzied fun, tension, and excitement. All the latest, hottest cameras, lenses, and accessories are on display here. They even sell computers, video, and audio equipment.

Now before you see this as an advertisement for B&H, I'll let you know that as a New Yorker, I rarely buy from B&H. Why? Tax my friend, tax! I have been buying, and selling equipment for many years, and have learned the art of the deal. I have a few trusted dealers in other states that I deal with. Another reason is simple frugality; I would rather buy used, or trade for the gear I want. In fact, the day I took this photo, I left B&H without buying one thing. I only took their free catalog. I left B&H to go do a local deal where I got a lens for a price that B&H would never be able match!

Note: This image was taken with a 1.3 Megapixel cell phone camera, and although I tried my best to maximize the capture, I apologize for its poor quality. This posting is only intended to give our fellow TE members a taste of the world's largest camera store from a New Yorker's point of view.
