Photographer's Note

These ducks tuck their beaks in their feathers at twilight at The Pond in Central Park. New York is one of the East Coast flyover zones for migration so many birds past by the green oasis, a tempting contrast to the concrete of the city. These mallards sleep with one eye open to watch for predators and tuck their beak inside their feathers to keep warm.
