Photographer's Note

The holiday season is here, and for me it began early with my annual visit to Radio City Music Hall to see the Christmas Spectacular. Last year it was cancelled due to COVID, but this year it was back. All attendees had to show proof of vaccination to enter. I was a bit nervous to be back in a theater, but thankfully most guests were wearing masks, and everything went well.

Visitors enter the theater through the Grand Lobby, and during the holiday season you are greeted by a large, crystal, Christmas tree chandelier. It is 35 feet tall (10.6 meters), and is decorated with 11,000 Swarovski crystal pieces.

Radio City Music Hall opened in December 1932, and the first Christmas show was performed the following year. The theater has an Art Deco theme, with various artwork throughout, and the auditorium has almost 6,000 seats. It is also known for its precision dance troupe, the Rockettes. They are the stars of the Christmas show, performing many dance numbers with lots of quick costume changes.

Seeing the Christmas Spectacular is always a highlight of the holidays for me. The set designs, music and costumes are all fabulous, and the theater itself is beautiful.

Ciao Brenda,so this is a Christmas event that for almost 100 years has opened the Christmas holidays in your city, a bit like in Milan when on December 7th there is the "premiere" at the Teatro della Scala. The Christmas tree is beautiful, fully reflects the tradition. And the two photos in the WS give a nice idea of what this show offers, really beautiful and of exceptional quality considering the movement and the light. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Brenda,
The Christmas tree chandelier is really beautiful and I hope it's safely attached to the ceiling. It would be sad to see it damaged in case it fell down on somebody. The Grand Lobby would be impressive at any time of the year. The WS are no less spectacular with their bright figures that make a great impact in their dark surroundings. I have a feeling Christmas decorations and celebrations are much more modest where I live, or maybe I just don't do enough to look for the spectacular arrangements.

Hello Brenda,
I seem to remember that you showed once a picture of the interior of Radio City Music Hall before.
It looks very festive in this photo and the interior is amazing.
A few daredevils dare to stand under the enormous chandelier :)
A chandelier that is actually a Christmas tree.
Beautiful captures of the show in both WS pictures. I like the photo of the wooden soldiers very much. The soldier on the far right is already falling.

I am feeling so happy looking at this photo...
during covid 19 the music life begun again...
I was at Luxembourg where my daughter lives
and works and I visited Philarmonie 4 times...
I felt too happy with the mask of course
under control but after a long long
time I watched a spectacle...

Hello Brenda,

Today we are neighbours on TE.
Since today ara all concert and grote event close in Belgium toward Christmas. The big Covid-19 sit by our grandchildren for 65 % , masker mandatory from six years., I've got, my third vaccin already.
A wonderful entrance with the big Christmas light with all the nice decorated with 11,000 Swarovski crystal pieces.
Excellent composition, with differ people at the reception.

A great opportunity to see yet again after long time past, the magnificent interior of this famous hall, Brenda.
The big chandelier captured my attention at first glance, than looked at the decorative elements and the people. One was watching you...

Hello Brenda, the chandelier is extremely impressive and beautiful, there is no way that one could miss this when walking into the Grand Lobby.
Three lovely shots.
The views of the stage, particularly the picture of the Santas , show us what an impressive space this is.
The shot with the toy soldiers is excellent too, especially as they are just about to all fall down.

I had fun reading your notes and sensing the joy and relief that you experienced from this festival outing! It just seems so reassuring that these types of occasions are being produced again, after all the gloom of previous Christmases!
The colours and lights capture the sense of festivity, whilst your well-chosen viewpoint guides us succinctly through the foyer towards the action!
I love the w/s, particularly the soldiers, in line!!

Hello Brenda, I can imagine what a wonderful spectacle it is. I was on the guided tour in Radio City Music Hall and it was very interesting. But to see the actual performance is something different. I remember these stairs. Very original hanging Christmas tree. Fantastic Workshop pictures.

there are SOOO many shots I've missed in your gallery, i'm going to have to re-visit them at some point. this shot here reminds me of a Las Vegas Hotel interior.
