Photographer's Note

The Statue of Liberty is a neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor within New York City.

Made in cooper it was a gift from France to the people of the United States. It was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

In the background you can see the New York Harbor at the mouth of the Hudson River where it empties into New York Bay and then into the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of the United States.
