Photographer's Note

Walking on Seventh Avenue near West 58th Street, you find a nice surprise. The building named Alwyn Court appears, filled from top to bottom with terra-cotta ornaments, in the French Renaissance style.

Alwyn Court is a 12 story apartment building completed in 1909. As you can see, there is also a restaurant at the corner, but at the moment it's temporarily closed.

In the style of French king Francois I, this facade has crowned salamanders breathing fire, as well as mythical animals, cherubs, vines, and other decorative elements. Some people compare it to a wedding cake. :-) It's both a NYC landmark, and a national historic site.

In the WS is a wider view, and also a close-up of some of the details.
