Photographer's Note

The title refers to Top of the Rock at blue hour on a Friday. I got here at 5:30 pm because my family wanted to visit another attraction nearby before it closed at 9:00. I, on the other hand, wanted to stay for blue hour. So I spent nearly four hours on top of 30 Rockefeller Center.

As the sun began to set, more and more people came up the elevators, and fewer and fewer people from earlier visits headed back down. Luckily, I staked out a spot at the edge with a good view. I made the mistake of letting a guy who was standing behind me elbow in. Rather than take a few shots and move on, he stayed there for the next half hour. I had to elbow my way back in and crowd him to the side. I didn't give an inch after that.

The view really is stunning. Building on top of building, as far as the eye can see. So many skyscrapers crowding the horizon, filling every space, rising ever higher. It's standing room only for buildings in Manhattan.
