Photographer's Note
Today is the first home game of the 2014 season for the Boston Red Sox, the defending champions of Major League Baseball. The shot here was taken on October 30 of last year, the night the Sox clinched the sixth and final game of the World Series, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals, and becoming in the process the first team to win three championships in the 21st century. It was also the first title they clinched at home since 1918, a total of 95 years - so what I was able to see that night, probably no one living had ever seen. I was also able to share the experience with my dad (you know him as rogerl).
I'm posting this today for two reasons: first, the Red Sox will play baseball at Fenway Park today for the first time since this picture was taken, and my dad and I will be in attendance again. Second, yesterday was his birthday.
Here's to another great year for both my dad and the Red Sox!

Hello Andrew
Thanks for the welcome back. I had a little time from TE for various reasons - surgery, work and exploring new photographic activities etc... I'm going to be posting again here but not as regularly as I did previously. I am though going back to Barcelona in May to meet up with Juan, Carlos and Krystof from TE so I may just bombard the site again!
Love the picture - well exposed and such great colours too. It also alerted me to the fact that we have something in common - no not a love of baseball - but the Fenway sports group also own my beloved Liverpool F.C. who are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League and have a good shot at winning it, I hope. So let's hope that the Red Sox can have a season that is as successful as the one the mighty reds of Liverpool have had! If the Red Sox do well maybe the owners will have a bit of extra cash for the Liverpool manager to spend in the transfer market! :)
Nice to hear from you again and hope you are well.

Hi Andrew
Wonderful night shot at RS's homeground, a real eyecatcher backed up by some great detail and vibrant colours, of course the clarity- exposure control is second to none. Thanks to you description, probably not everyone's cup of tea but I truly enjoy the fun atmosphere there and going to see a game like this is always a blast! and really fascinating once you learn what's happening. This definitely is a good night out, I love the extra red smokes boosting the total impact of the shot. Remarkable night shot, Andrew. Cheers!
Warm regards

Hi Andrew,
It is actually surprising how few sports pictures there are in TE, considering how important part of free time watching sports is for many. It is very interesting to look numerous details of this one opened as a huge size version on my screen. Very vivid and colorful.

Hello Andrew,
Baseball leaves me ice cold (and that probably goes for most Europeans) but that shouldn't keep anyone from enjoying a colorful picture filled with action and fine details. I guess European football (soccer) fans celebrating a victory would look the same.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Andrew
Ciao e buona serata
Romano

Andrew, I love this shot. I think I was there :). Good exposure and great timing on the shot. Pretty clear given the circumstances. And, of course, a wonderful note. Thanks. Great day today, too, even given the poor result of the game.

Hello Andrew,
A great documentary shot - you have a great view behind home base with the famous Green Monster to the left, bright fireworks and the throng of media and fans celebrating around the mound. The light also is very well managed with the bright stadium set nicely against the black night sky.
Best wishes,
Caleb

Hey Andrew,
Well, I kept putting this off, but I suppose it can't stay on the back burner forever. You know how much this pains me to see, so I'm going to focus on the sentiment expressed to your Pops instead. :)
As a fan of the game, and with an appreciation for storied history...Fenway that is, not the recent WS wins...I will show my admiration of this photo. :) A remarkable result considering the tricky exposure and hand held nature, I applaud your ability to remain calm enough to have a steady hand...I would have been jumping around like a mad man! lol A nice tribute to both your father and favorite team. Here's to another fun season ahead. All the best. Take it easy.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Hot dogs, fireworks and baseball can't get more American than that. Good capture of this beautiful nocturnal scene. Good lighting and nice details with wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
