...."Beautiful Old Home"....

This ...."Beautiful Old Home".... is located in Kearney,
Nebraska, USA. Thirty Miles east of our home.

The community of Kearney has a rich pioneer history.
Early pioneers and 49'ers converged at Fort Kearny
following there dreams on the Mormon, Oregon and
California Trails. Later the Pony Express, Overland
Stage, Union Pacific Railroad, telegraph and Lincoln
Highway all passed throught Kearney as they physically
connected the east and west coasts.

Fort Kearny, named for Colonel Stephen Watts Kearny
was built in 1848 to protect those heading west on the
Oregon Trail. More than 30,000 travelers passed through
the fort as they headed west during an 18-month period
around the gold rush. The town of Kearney is named
after Fort Kearny and you will notice an extra "e" in
Kearney. It seems that someone in the Post Office made
a spelling error and by the time it was realized, no one felt
a change was necessary.

From these humble beginnings of a small pioneer fort,
Kearney now is a city of 30,000 and has the 3rd largest
University in the state. It is also a major Medical center
for Central Nebraska and many miles around. Most
medical issues are handle here, however, if necessary
individuals can be flown immediately to Denver, Colorado
or Lincoln and Omaha in Nebraska.

Thanks to everyone for looking in.
