Photographer's Note

...."Fort McPherson National Cemetery-2"....

"For him who shall have borne the battle and
for his widow, and his orphan." --Abraham Lincoln,
Second Inaugural Address, March 4, 1865.

The Avenue of Flags is presented three times
each year on Memorial Day, Independence Day
July 4th, and Veteran's Day. This is a very peaceful
and quite rural setting, just 3 miles south of the
very small town of Maxwell, Nebraska, USA.

Fort McPherson site is one quarter mile
southeast of the cemetery. It is marked by
a Granite Monument erected in 1928.
It says "To perpetuate the site of old Fort
McPherson and the Oregon Trail - the fort
made possible the first white settlement in
Lincoln County located here and known as
Cottonwood Springs - Fort McPherson was
established February 20, 1866 and disbanded
June 30, 1880.
This ends my series on "Fort McPherson National
Cemetery" and "Fort McPherson"
Thanks to everyone for looking in.
