Photographer's Note
Bird Lives - a sculpture honoring be-bop jazz legend Charlie "Yardbird" Parker. This work is located in Kansas City's Historic Jazz District around 18th and Vine. It is perhaps appropriate, however, that Parker is facing away from the city. Late in life he came to resent his home town, saying that he had never been appreciated there, and had been treated poorly. His memory is now honored in the city where he started his meteoric music career.

Hello Franklin,
It is always interesting to see artwork particular to a certain city. Nice presentation, with the city in the background and a clear, blue sky. Thanks for the informative note, too.

One of the absolute geniusses of 20th century music, and judging from this rather dire sculpture he STILL is neglected. I'd expected a joyful, dynamic, vibrant, bee-bop-crazy work of art, this looks like a death mask. Where's the passion?
Thumbs up to you for showing it here, 'cause I'd never seen it before. But what a missed opportunity!
Benny
