The Cascades
Cascade River State Park
near Grand Marais, Minnesota

A short walk up and along the Cascade river from my previous post of Cascade Falls moves from one beautiful waterfall to the next series of them .. to the namesake of this place "The Cascades"

Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior is lined with a series of beautiful state parks seems like there is one every ten to twenty miles as one heads up the shore .. Their motif is for the most part very similar .. beautiful North Shore views of Superior .. rivers rushing and cascading down into the lake .. through the thick forests of the North Woods .. abundant wildlife ..

Cascade River State Park has been on my to do list since I discovered it on the state park site .. the Park's site begins with the statement:

"Come to Cascade for the rushing river and grand waterfalls that lay within a gorge, lush with moss and ferns that grow on black volcanic rocks."

It certainly did not disappointment. The first fall .. Cascade Falls .. is located just a couple hundred feet from the parking lot off of Scenic Highway 61 that runs along the North Shore .. this series "the Cascades" a short bit further .. or one can park at the campground above and do the short walk in reverse order.
