Photographer's Note

This was taken on the seafront area (La Villa a Mare)of Palermo, Sicily. The area has several interesting pieces of street art. This runs along the side of the road and looks to me like a line of soldiers. I have not been able to find out what they really represent. The weather was not warm (January) and the seafront area seemed rather bleak with almost no people on the waterfront.
Palermo is a wonderful city to visit and has become a major tourist centre as well as being the main industrial and commercial hub of Sicily. It is on the north-west of the island and its position with a natural harbour has given it a long history as a port in the mediterranean. The first settlement was in 734 BC, founded by the Phoenicians. Later it was part of the Roman Republic and Roman Empire. Palermo is the capital of Sicily.
