Photographer's Note
A Dog’s View,
Built in 1859 and named after John Griffiths it’s builder, this small but beautiful structure stands on a rocky point just a stone’s throw from the town of Port Fairy, in south west Victoria.
Easily accessible to visitors, the lighthouse demands to be photographed but a point and shoot approach does not do justice to the moods that can be captured.
The last lighthouse keeper that lived on the island was there from 1929 till 1954. It remained unoccupied for a short time until it was automated.
When I took this shot I was standing where once stood the lighthouse keeper’s little bluestone cottage. If he had a faithful dog & I don’t know that he did, I imagine he would sit outside the front door or by the front gate, look at his master & wait for him to come home.
This would have been his view of this little lighthouse.

Hi Santo. Great framing, and the path out to the light house just begs to be followed. Nice colour and detail though I think you may have over sharpened a little as there are halos forming around your light house. Nice work all the same and thanks for sharing.
Have a good weekend, Paul.

Hello Santo,
I have underestimated your imagination, even imagining yourself as a dog! I like the title and the view of course with the picket fence as a FG feature. Just one thing, someone told me before that a dog does not see colours. If that is true, this photo should be in B&W...;)))). A good photo job to brighten the FG. A nice one again, Santo
Take care, my friend

Hello Santo,
The softness of the clouds and sky make for an interesting background. Very well organized image and the colours well saturated. Your perspective of this place and moment gave you an excellent image. Thanks for sharing :-)

Ciao Santo. Something "feverish" about this image. Reminds me of van Gogh's colours before he lost his marbles, not that I am implying anything.Yes, it is a place where the imagination can run away from one, even a dog's i suspect. Seriously, amico, you have done a superb job here in terms of perspective, composition, light and colour, plus you added a certain "soul" to the image.Saluti. Klaudio.

Hi Santo,
Must have been a sausage dog to have his head that low to the ground.
I like the post work you've done here but there seems to be a bit of a jagged edge along the top of the bush, nice work on the Dodge and Burn Tool, or is it HDR.
I like your POV and your composition, framing the lighthouse between the fence posts works and doesn't seem too obvious.
I hope you're up for a good weekend.
Cheers
Peter

Hello Santo,
The picket fence makes a fine framing for the lighthouse and the view to the sea!
A well balanced composition with fine details...
I have spent some time studying Norwegian lighthouses, and I'm considering visiting a few of those located not so far away..!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Santo,
The question is: Do dogs enjoy spectacular sunsets? Do they even notice the change of colours of the sky? In any case, the lighthouse keeper must have appreciated this view, even though it meant watching his place of work. It's a very well composed picture, the top of the lighthouse catching some of the golden light of sunset, and the green grass matching the sky remarkably well.
Kind regards,
Gert

Helpful note and a vivid photograph - the thumbnail made the colour manipulation look a bit over-done, but I'm glad I came to visit the fullsize image. Thanks for sharing it!

Hi Santo, well I guess you knew that this wouldn't be my cup of tea... For my taste the PP is too heavy, but I do like the compostion. You really have been experimenting with PS. How about posting a less altered version as a WS for comparison?

Hi Santo.
I'll have to upload my photo taken from almost the same position, but very different conditions!
I can see little signs of your photoshop work, but I think it was worth doing in this case. The result is quite other-worldly. I love the sky, and the low POV which you adopted. All in all it's much more dramatic than the picture I took, creating a totally different atmosphere. If I had it on this computer I'd upload it as a WS, maybe.
I'm back in Melbourne, and keen to go on another outing somewhere.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Santo
Good idea with placing your shot behind the fence. It adds some more interest to the shot. Your picture has a calming feel to it. Plus, the lighthouse really stands out against that colourful sky.
Excellent work,
Tosca
