This is the famous Shwezigon Pagoda, situated in Nyaung U, near Bagan.
Shwezigon is one of the most important Buddhist temples in the country. It was started in the 11th century, by King Anawrahta, in order to shelter some relics of Buddha and also 37 nats, or spirits - 37 sculptures, whose copies are now placed on a hall and can be visited by pilgrims and also by tourists.
