The Belgian draft horses were famous throughout the world. In 1910 moved 34,576 draft from Belgium to America, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Germany, France, Netherlands and Italy.

The draft national competition each year was a brilliant and massively attended event, which the king and the royal family and representatives of foreign royal houses were present.

For a fokhengst were phenomenal amounts offered.
In 1930 moved the Espoir Quaregnon for 1 million francs - current value: € 505,000 - to Italy.
The salary of a bank employee during that period 685 francs per month!
In 1930 it cost 10,000 francs - current value: 5050 € - for a mare to be covered by Avenir d'Herse.

In agriculture withdrew draft heavy and cumbersome equipment.
But they were not only useful for farmers. The horses were also used in mines. They went into the mine if it 3 or 4 years old. Then they saw the light of day anymore.

After the Second World War, these magnificent heavy horses displaced by the engine.

In 1950 there were still 200,000 draft on Belgian soil. In the 80s, there were still a over 6000. Now there are 15,000 in Belgium and Belgian draft horses are again more foals born.
For a variety of activities by new draft fans are enthusiastic breeders encouraged to live this unique breed to keep.
