Photographer's Note

A great way to photograph sandpipers and other small birds on the beach is to get down to their level. Using a 400mm f2.8 lens on a sawed-off monopod and lying flat on my stomach, the birds are not as frightened as they are when the photographer is standing. It is really cool how close they actually come.

Taken at the Little Estero Critical Wildlife Area late in the afternoon on the last Sunday in February. Even at f7.1 there is still quite a narrow depth of field.
