Photographer's Note

This is from Durrës, the second largest city of Albania and the country's largest port, with daily connections by ferry to Italian ports. The small building across the bay is typical of the Albania that has developed since the early 2000's, when the country has gone from dull and drab to bright and cheerful.

Of all the former Communist countries in eastern Europe Albania has possibly had the most rapid face-lift. The infrastructure has been greatly improved, lots of new hotels and restaurants have opened and for tourists it is possibly one of the safest countries in Europe. I am surprised that still so relatively few members of TE have been to Albania. Nice and cheap and scenic, what more could be asked?

I saw this man as he was standing on the jetty trying to catch fish in the most simple way, by just holding a fishing line in his hand.

Here is a larger version.

In the workshops you can see a wider view from the same place and another fisherman from the same area.
