Photographer's Note

When I visited Vienna one and a half year ago, I also paid a quick visit to the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, that lies on the border with Austria. This photo was taken in the old and historic city centre (Staré Mesto). The church on the left hand side is the St. Stephen's Church (Kostol sv. Štefana), the white building in the background is Bratislava Castle (Bratislavský hrad).

Bratislava (until 1919 known as Preßburg) has been the capital of Slovakia since the country's independence in 1993. The city is located on the Danube River, only 60km from Vienna. With 500,000 inhabitants it is the largest city in Slovakia.
