Photographer's Note

This is Amalfi on the world famous Costiera Amalfitana, the Amalfi Coast. I'm feeling really homesick for Italia today, so looking through my photos has helped a little.

Amalfi, founded around the 6th Century, is one of many beautiful glittering little towns that dot this breath-taking coast, alongside Positano, Ravello, Maiori, Minori, Praiano and Salerno. If I ever win the lottery, it will be here along this coast that I will live. Once the capital of a powerful and important maritime republic, Amalfi today is a popular tourist destination. Its cathedral, San Andrea, is in the Byzantine and Barocque stile, with a majolica tiled dome, impressive cloisters, a golden reliquary and world-class works of art by artists such as Bernini and Naccherino (a pupil of Michaelangelo).
