Photographer's Note

The small Puuc site of Xlapak is located just 3 kilometres to the west of Labná. Its main attraction is the palace of nine rooms in a very classic style. In this view, I am approaching from the north and the forest path and overall setting are sublime. There are three, large Chaac masks, one centre, and two on the corners, that adorn the front. They extend up high above the cornice so as to interrupt the silhouette. A portion of the right wall (to the west and south) has collapsed, but the majority of the structure affords a great view. Activity at Xlapak would date from the late classic. Geo coordinates in Google Earth are: and with elevation of 74 metres. As with Labná, the site area is flat as the whole is clearly situated south of La Sierrita de Ticul.
