Photographer's Note

From the centre of the Plaza of the Palace looking south, I have captured this view of the Teocalli or Main Temple of Kabah. I am told that, like the Pyramid of the Magician at Uxmal, it, too, rests on a great elliptical base. It was used as a "House of the Gods" or Teocalli from whence priests offered sacrifices and interpreted messages, adopting the practice of the peoples in Central Mexico. On top are the remains of the temple walls, reached by a large staircase that features a half-vault beneath and two large rooms to the sides. The Great Palace, yesterday's upload, is to the east and immediate north, while the Codz Poop is located to its west (right in the photo).
